Located on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia, Sausage Tree Camp & Potato Bush Camp are the ultimate bush hideaways. The camps’ situations, on the waters edge, ensures an abundance of game, and each offers an exclusive safari experience amidst breathtakingly beautiful scenery.
POTATO BUSH CAMP
Potato Bush Camp is the ideal family friendly option located in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park. With private guiding for every booking and a 2 bedroom en-suite family tent, families have the freedom to do what they want when they want.
Opened in 2012, Potato Bush Camp is the little sister to Sausage Tree Camp with only 3 luxury tents and a two-bedroom ‘Family House’. It is the ideal small group or family safari option with a minimum guest age of only 4. The spacious and airy luxury tents all have private plunge pools and guests are impeccably looked after by their dedicated butler or ‘muchinda’.
A key feature of both properties is the flexibility and variety of dining experiences. The day starts with a wake up call and your choice of hot drink. Breakfasts can either be served in camp or in the bush, especially during a walking safari. An a la carte lunch is served in the main tent after a mornings activities or guests can enjoy it under the shade of a tree in a breath-taking safari location or ankle-deep out in the river. Evening meals can either be served in a communal safari-style around a single table in the main restaurant, out under the stars or even in a remote location in the bush.
SAUSAGE TREE CAMP
Sausage Tree is the epitome of exclusive bush chic. This luxurious camp reflects an impeccable eye for detail and it is no wonder it has been voted number one on BBC Holiday Programme’s ‘Ten Best Luxury Destinations’. The camp consists of 7 luxury suites and Kigela House – a perfect space for families or groups. Sleeping only 18 guests at once means this slice of the African wilderness feels exclusive and private. The suites – rebuilt in 2018 to exceptional standards- are spaced out along the river bank allowing for elephants to wander through and making for spectacular views at any time of day. Shaded by huge Sausage and Mahogany trees and capturing breezes through the gauze windows and sliding doors, these are the perfect private sanctuaries to return to for an afternoon siesta or good nights rest.
Sausage Tree & Potato Bush Camps’ location means there is an abundance of game to be seen and a multitude of ways in which to experience. The usual game drives and walks with private guide & vehicle are complimented by boat cruises and canoe safaris. As well as game there are some 500 species of bird to view and some of the most spectacular fresh water sport fishing in the world.
