NEW Hot Springs Boardwalk at Lake Manyara, Tanzania

October 20 2016

Lake Manyara National Park is located on the way to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti in Northern Tanzania. Located beneath the cliffs of the Manyara Escarpment, on the edge of the Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park offers varied ecosystems, incredible bird life, and breathtaking views. Often visited for just half a day and famed for tree-climbing lions, many often forget the great array of mammals and birdlife that co-exist in this spectacular eco-system. Its ground water forests, bush plains, baobob strewn cliffs, and algae-streaked hot springs offer incredible ecological variety in a small area, rich in wildlife and incredible numbers of birds. In an effort to encourage guests to spend a little longer in this park, the authorities have inaugurated the Hot Springs (maji moto) Boardwalk at Lake Manyara.

The boardwalk features a 1.5-metre-wide impressive wooden structure, creating a 300-meter-long trail standing 1.5 meters above the ground and winding up to an observation platform that is 15 metres long and 2.5 metres wide.

The trail meanders through hot springs and the lakeshore around a marsh and finally onto the lake. The boardwalk will give visitors a unique view and wonderful photo opportunities at every turn of the trail.

Visitors will access the facilities for free and have the opportunity to walk around 600 metres on a return trip to the lakeshore and over the hot springs. Educational signage with entertaining themes have been placed in key locations to allow visitors’ easy reading and understanding of the nature and resources found in the area. Lake Manyara National Park is well worth a stop in its own right and can easily be combined as part of a tailor-made itinerary in Tanzania. There are some wonderful lodges and camps available in the park including Chem Chem Lodge, and Lake Manyara Tree Lodge which we can include as part of a wider itinerary in Tanzania. Why not also consider combining your safari with some rest and relaxation at the coast.

Simply contact us to discuss your requirements and we will put together a tailor-made itinerary in Tanzania to suit you.
