Founder and Director - Outposts Travel Africa
"The more I get to know Africa ... the less I understand it. This makes every visit a step into the unknown making one both anxious and excited, heightening the anticipation. I look forward to Africa's perfect blend of nature's beauty and power which amazes, excites and extraordinarily also soothes one's soul; I always want to go back for more and love the thought of introducing this continent and her diverse people to others through Travel Africa."
DD was born and raised in her beloved Kenya. She has travelled extensively throughout Africa most of her life and returns as often as possible to continue her search for unusual and special places, accommodation and activities to recommend to her Travel Africa clients.
In addition to travelling, DD's great love is horses. As an extremely competent 3-day event rider who has represented Great Britain, she is perfectly placed to recommend and arrange the best and most suitable riding safaris for those clients who share her enthusiasm!
Director of Travel Africa - MD & Co-Founder of Outposts Ltd
On completion of a full military career during which he commanded a UK Special Forces Regiment and led challenging expeditions in the deserts and mountains of the Middle East and Africa, Michael together with DD, founded Outposts Travel Africa & Outposts Ltd in 1997.
Michael left Eton, and classroom education, at the age of 17 to go in search of 'adventure'. He worked initially in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda guiding clients on photographic safaris. On joining the army, he attended Mons Officer Cadet School where he passed out as the top cadet and was commissioned shortly thereafter into the 17th / 21st Lancers.
Seconded to the Sultan of Oman's Armed Forces, Michael fought in the Dhofar War; as an Intelligence Officer and then as a Special Operations Officer where he was decorated for gallantry. Michael is Honorary Colonel of the Reserves Training and Mobilisation Centre (RTMC) and Clerk of the Cheque and Adjutant to Her Majesty's Bodyguard to the Yeoman of The Guard. He is an accomplished rider, having raced horses on the flat, over fences and competed in National Hunt races.
